We make the trip from San Diego the San Francisco Bay Area several times a year. We usually leave San Diego after work and spend the night a Motel 6 in Buttonwillow. I highly recommend making an on-line reservation for this location, as it does fill up. This is a good half-way point if you are making a similar trip. Rooms are basic, but clean. Pets are allowed with no extra deposit. Free coffee in the lobby. Reservations can be made at www.motel6.com
