I would just like to share an experience that happened about 4 years ago concerning McCord Tire down on the Levy, the one behind El Rodeo.
I had a 1991 GMC Jimmy 4-wheel drive, and it started to exhibit a strange "Clunk!" whenever I would make a somewhat sharp turn over a bump. Well, I took the vehicle down to McCord tire, and explained to them that I wanted them to determine the cause of this noise, and also to align the steering.
They aligned the steering, and told me that I needed an Idler Arm replaced, and also a strut on one side. This added up to nearly $1,000 dollars.
Suffice to say, the noise remained. Again, I took the vehicle to them and explained that I still heard the noise, and it was coming somewhere around the area where they'd done the strut work. Well, they supposedly inspected it again, and said that the problem was actually the spring. But you cannot replace only one spring, they had to do both, to another costly tune. I paid, and.... the noise remained. By this time, I was irate. I had the manager come out to the vehicle, and HEAR the noise as I drove the vehicle through the potholed parking lot (how convenient). He gave me some doubletalk, and offered a "Discount" on further repairs! I insisted that they fix the noise, or at least explain it, at no cost. He basically refused, and I just gave up on them.
Then I found out my neighbor was a suspension mechanic at Mike Raizor Ford, and asked him about the noise. He said, "Oh, that's nothing to worry about. sometimes the ball joints do that in older vehicles because they get a little worn down, but it doesn't need replaced or anything."
