After reading about and seeing pictures of Cape May, New Jersey, in the pages of Country Living magazine, I had dreamed of going there for years. When my fiancee and I decided to take a road trip north, I knew it was my chance. Although we only spent one night in Cape May, it was more than I'd dreamed of.
I oohed and aahed at every house we passed, each seeming to be better than the one before. There were majestic mansions and quaint cottages, most trimmed with gingerbread galore. The clapboards and shingles were all sweetly colored like shades of candy. There were porches with rockers, both picket and iron fences and garden statues. It was almost like a real-life Disney World.
Although I'd hoped to be in Cape May during Victorian Week, we were too early. It was what I'd read about most often in Country Living. Victorian Week is a
10-day extravaganza which has been held annually for the last 33 years. There are events and tours which celebrate the Victorian era. The special events include fashion shows, concerts, a tea dance, lectures and more.
I thoroughly enjoyed my all-too-quick visit to Cape May and hope to return for a longer stay.
