Review content:
We were running late for church yesterday so we decided to eat breakfast first then go to a later mass. Right down the road from our church is The Original Pancake House on Niagara Falls Blvd in Tonawanda/Amherst (right near Walmart and Home Depot).
Parking is sufficient and access to the restaurant is also good being on a very busy road.
We were seated right away in a fairly clean booth setting. The restaurant was loud and a bit chaotic (I'm sure we didn't help being a party of 5 with 3 children 5 yrs and under though). I think we must have been lucky though b/c when we were on our way out, it was "standing room only".
It took a bit of time for our waitress to take our drink order. We were a bit shocked to see the menu. The prices were definitely on the high side. Drink prices were outrageous and the serving size was "stingy". Then we had a heck of a time trying to decide what to eat and what to feed the children. There were no options for children. It was either pancakes with bacon or sausage and that was that. I asked the waitress if we could get them with chocolate chips or would it be extra, she said yes we could (but low and behold, we were charged $1.50 extra and I didn't even have time to question it b/c we had to get to church). How annoying, I hate being "nickel and dimed". My husband was going to order the "apple pancake" but she said it would take 25 minutes to make so he changed his order to an omelette. We both had omelettes (nothing fancy). They were good but not spectacular. The menu was horrible. No explanation of food items. For instance, what exactly is a "Polish Omelette"?? We may have been interested (doubt it) but we didn't have a clue what it was. The pancakes were just pancakes. It didn't specify if they came with anything else or if you could add something for a smaller price. My hubby is one of those people that really like meat at each meal. To add sausage to a pancake order would have cost him almost $5. That's outrageous.
The service was less than par. We had to ask our waitress 2 times for extra napkins and she forgot about my husband's water.
We will not return to this restaurant. The bill was close to $40 for 2 omelets and 2 kid's pancake orders and "normal" drinks. In my opinion, this is a lot of money for what we got. We could have gotten better food and better service for less money at Bob Evans Restaurant (which is right down the road). Overall a disappointing dining experience.
