Deschners, located on Ashland Road, is legendary for their pizza here in town. The difference between Deschners and any other pizza is obvious contents. The practice is to pile the pizza high with toppings. Pick up a medium size pizza and you will know right away its a Deschners, it weights twice as much if not more than the average pizza from any other chain take out place. Our favorite is the sausage and pepperoni pizza, piled high with chunks of tasty sausage and zingy pepperoni, oozing in cheese and light on the sauce. This is a pizza that makes a meal, even in their medium sizes. The whole family will walk away satisfied with a large one. The price is a bit higher than the commercial pizzas but this is well worth the extra simply because you cant find a better built pizza. Now, to go with that, should you have the room, or if you are not craving pizza, let me recommend the best hot wings in town. The Deschners hot wings are not to be beat by any of the so called wing joints this town has to offer. These are well done, spiced just right to burn lightly on the tongue yet the sauce is very tasty. This is hot wings done to perfection. Add an order or two of the best jo-jos Ive ever had, and this is a meal in itself, or the finishing touch to one of their pizzas. The store is a drive through offering you the option of parking, which there is plenty of, or you can drive through and never leave your car. The store has the usual additions to be found in a setup like this; soda, wine, beer, alcoholic mixers, chips, snacks and of course, you can pick up your lottery tickets while waiting. If you call ahead, the usual wait is about 20-25 minutes. Friday nights seem to be busier after 5. I prefer to call in my order, as I do live a bit out of town, but the drive is well worth it. For the best pizza and hot wings in town, visit Deschners and make it a special Friday night for the whole family.
