After I turned age 41 I began many woman illnesses after not so much as a headache until about age 30. As a child I had the typical ear infections and occasional pneumonia until my tonsils were removed. Never even any childhood diseases such as chicken pox, mumps, etc, while 3 siblings had them and later, my own 2 children. The past 3 years have been a nightmare. Three major surgeries at once, early menopause, major weight gain, depression, severe edema and sleep apnea that has progressed into narcolepsy and even day dreams which are really weird. As if reality and non reality walked hand in hand. I thought I was becoming schitzophrenic and I had to put up with much teasing and derogatory comments at work for a good while and even felt very useless and not needed there after almost 15 years of service. Who was it that said that only children can be cruel in their taunting? I know otherwise.
After seeing several different doctors and going through the ringer with many medical tests I finally ended up at a center run by Dr. Thomas Chodosh. I met with his assistant and colleague Brian Powell who agreed to treat me for my many conditions.
Now ten months later my condition is improving. Going on a trip to the doctors office is never a fun thing.
However, going to this office is at least comfortable and I always feel welcome. From the admin staff to the x-ray techs, nurses and docs and even doctors wife I have always been treated very well. These guys and gals are very down to earth and do not look down on the common non medical person. They always take their time to accomodate your needs. I have been around medical people all my life with my mom and sister employed in the medical fields. She even worked for Dr. Chodosh when I was very young and he was my pediatrician. I also have a 22 year old mildly mental retarded disabled man-child at home who is like a 12 yr old. With him I had to quit work for several years to care for his condition and even take bus trips to Galveston many times for testing and treatment alone as a single parent and stay in scarey rooming houses on foot near John Sealy hospital. Once I had the pleasure of staying at the Ronald McDonald house which was brand new back in the 80's. Even though I did meet some wonderful people over the years, I have never felt compelled to share my experience at a medical facility with the public until now.
They are a family care center and I would highly reccomend a visit there. I am lucky to have found them and glad I have my foot in the door now. There may be a day that they run out of room for new patients. I don't intend on leaving anytime soon.
But who am I besides the average common person. You have got to see them to believe me. They will make a believer and friend out of you.
Today, I am a far cry from the early 80's disco queen I use to be called, but I am on track to better health now. It won't be easy and I will have to work with exercise and diet, but they have me back on the right road to as much recovery as my condition allows.
