Review content:
Maud Marks Library is part of the Harris County Library system. It is located on Westgreen near Highland Knolls next to a fire station. This library is small compared with some of the larger, newer branches, but it offers some unique features.
Because the Harris County Library is such a large system, they offer just about every book, video, and CD ever made. They have a great online reservation system that allows you to request items to be delivered to your branch. Because their checkout period is only 2 weeks and because they often have multiple copies of the items, the requests are usually filled very quickly.
One feature that I like about this library is the display they have of the current bestsellers. This poster near the fiction books allows me to search for other books by the best selling authors if I am coming up with a blank on what to check out.
This library has an extensive children's collection since they are not a new library just beginning their purchases. Their board books are displayed in plastic bins which allows little hands to search easily. One negative about this library is that they don't have other activities (puzzles etc) for little ones. Because of the limited space, the most they have is a table with some blocks.
I highly recommend the storytimes taught by Ms. Judy. These are a toddler time Wednesdays at 11:15 and an infant time (through 15 mths or so) Thursdays at 10:15 and 11:15. The other story times are Tuesday 10:15 and 11:15 and Wednesday at 10:15. These are pretty good, but Ms. Judy made such a difference in the early lives of my kids! I attended the infant and toddler times with Ms. Judy from 2002-2005. She still remembers both of my kids names and chats with them everytime we go to the library. She is really a special asset for this library, and makes my children feel very special. My only warning is that these sessions tend to be VERY crowded!
