Review content:
Caramoor is the legacy of Walter and Lucie Dodge Rosen, who established the estate and built a great house as its centerpiece, filling it with treasures collected during their travels abroad. Built over a ten year period between 1929-1939, the summer mansion is furnished with valuable furniture and antiques brought back from Europe and the Far East. In 1945, the Rosens bequeathed the Caramoor estate as a center for music and art in memory of their son. An annual eight-week music festival has been held on the property ever since to the delight of music lovers across the region.
Visit Caramoor on a summer's evening during June through August and be treated to hearing some of the world's best musicians in a venue like no other. The setting is magnificent and you'll sit under the stars. This year's Festival includes the Orchestra of St. Luke's, The Bearcats Dixie Land Band & House Tour, operas and various concerts of American and European musicians.
Several corporations rent out the property during the summer to host special events (I've been lucky enough to attend a few of these and they were wonderful). However, anyone can purchase tickets which start at just $17.
Museum tours of the Caramoor estate are open to the public May to October, Wednesday to Sundays from 1-4PM. This is a great day trip.
