I am married to the absent minded professor ( A great, loving guy who knows nothing about cars) I am in charge of all car repair and maintenance. We have been buying every set of tires on all cars at the Fry Road WalMart since early 1980.Mainly from Chuck (since he started at WalMart). WalMart is one of the cheapest for top quality tires and will give you discounts for repeat business. Repairs or replacement can be done conveniently all over the US. I only tend to get flat tires when I am on the freeway far away from home: usually due to road debris, etc. I pay extra for the road hazard warranty and have used it many times all over the US on trips with a vehicle full of people. Two summers ago we drove the Gulf Coast to FL to show my kids my grandparents home I used to visit growing up and my grandparents graves. Then we traveled I-75 North to far Northern MI. In GA another car threw a tiny piece of metal road debris into our tire in a construction zone. We immediately pulled off and had the tire removed at a TRUCK stop. I called AAA and they said they were miles away and it would take a 3-4 hours to get to us.I explained we happened to be at an exit with a big Truck stop they told me to have the tire changed and submit the bill for reimbursement as this was NOT an authorized AAA agent but because of the road construction they would honor it. I immediately pulled in between 2 gigantic double long semis and the attendant quickly changed the tire.I sent my 82 yr old Dad and my 2 kids inside with Granddad to go the restroom and buy cold drinks. My Dad wanted to change the tire as he always does on his car. I explained this is a large Toyota van and now you're older and its hot: that's why I have AAA Plus---I'm a women I'm never going to change a tire if I can help it! I could if I wanted to but why get filthy, exhausted, etc if you don't have to? I used my cell to call the WalMart Tire & Lube Express in the city we had just left they said they had just sold the last 2 of our tires they gave me the phone number of the next 2 cities on I-75 which had WalMart Tire & Lube Expresses. I called both Wal Mart's and 1 had our correct brand tire and size. They held the tire for us an we drove on the full sized spare 30 miles to the town. Then waited for 2 hours to have the tire put on---they mentioned all the I-75 Walmart's were doing land office business because of the 75 -100 mile stretch of road construction with all the debris! This was a Sunday approx 5pm-if I had bought the tires at NTW or any other local tire establishment I would not have been able to replace the tire---I was more than 1,000 miles from home at the time and their stores would have been closed or closing. My 82 yr old who was with me has purchased tires near his home and does not believe in ANY extended warranties. He would have had to consider a possible repair or been out the money for the tire. Any discounted repairs would have required him to bring his tire back to the local store he purchased at in MI. This episode alone has changed him for life: his next set of tires were purchased from his local WalMart with the road hazard warranty! Wal Mart replaced the damaged tire for free: no charge and we were on our way within 2 hours. While we waited we walked to their restaurant and sat down with cold drinks, etc. They apologized profusely for the long wait due to others who had also had tires torn up in the construction zone on I-75. Last Sunday I walked out in the driveway and the tire on my husband's Toyota station wagon was flat as a pancake. My Dad came over pumped it up (w/ my $12 Dollar Store tire pump which plugs in the cigarette lighter that I keep in the vehicle at all times) and my spouse drove it over to our Fry Rd Wal Mart before it lost air again. Wal Mart said 2 hour wait as they were swamped. We left the station wagon and I drove them all home in our Toyota van. WalMart staff called my spouse about an hour later: new tire installed and balanced: no charge due to I-10 road construction here in Houston (small rim cut). If we did not have the Wal Mart Road hazard warranty this too would have been out of our pocket. I have considered buying tires at Sam's Club and COSCO too but their stores are not in every small town so it would be harder to replace tires or find a matching one if you are on a vacation/long cross country trip OR at odd hours. I love to travel the US with my kids and am often traveling alone in our new or old 200,000+ mile (great condition) Toyota vans with my 12 or 17 yr old going to meet my 82 yr old Dad. (Spouse working or overseas on a business trip.)I want convenience, reliability, minimal cost for repairs and prompt repairs so I can be inconvenienced the least therefore WalMart Tire & Lube Express tires WITH road hazard warranty are heaven sent for me! I have probably bought 50+ sets of tires from Fry Road Wal Mart over the years: my very favorite WalMart for Tires and car batteries. Chuck (Asst Tire & Lube Express MGR for past 20+ yrs originally from MI) is great:1 of my all time favorite EXCEPTIONAL WalMart Employees! Always Checks the tires, does the free rotations and balancing at required intervals, checks and replaces battery's as they age and lets me know when it is the right time to replace tires and have a wheel alignment done. Some times wear has been uneven and I know I am taking off on another of my 3500+ mile round trips. I have Chuck personally look over all 4 tires on the rack and check the full sized spare to AVOID problems on the road. He is honest, sincere, courteous and friendly. Other businesses will say buy new tires from us. Chuck will say wear is even and it is too soon---take your trip replace it when you return or wait another 6 months. I have done so much automotive business with this WalMart because of Chuck's exceptional attitude. The wait can be long at times so try to avoid Friday: late afternoon & evening, Saturday: afternoon and evening and the day or 2 immediately before or after a major holiday. Plan to drop off the car and have someone drive you home if possible and call you with an estimate and results. One recent problem has been locating tires for our new Toyota Sienna XLE van as we have the optional larger wheel size. My spouse called NTW, Sam Club, COSCO and other major Houston tire companies: no one stocks the size! Our local WalMart had 1 tire in stock and had the other tires sent in within 2 days. Therefore check ahead if you need a full set if you have trouble locating it at other stores WalMart is more likely to be able to get it in a short amount of time. NTW's price quote for tires was approx $30 more per tire for lower quality tires with a much shorter warranty period. My spouse was surprised that Wal Mart's Tires were so much better quality AND a much better price plus NTW wanted a minimum of 7 days to get the tires in!
