I just moved to the area from the south, and was terrified of choosing a new salon. I called the salon and had difficulty scheduling an appointment because the salon was not familiar with the Relay Service (I am Deaf and can only communicate through the Relay Service). I got an appointment scheduled with Lorie the next day, however. When I showed up for my appointment, I only had to wait a few minutes before Lorie was ready for me (she was with another client). Immediately upon meeting Lorie, my fears were eased. I explained what I wanted, which was a color and cut. I hadn't had my hair cut in over 3 months and the roots from my last color job were showing horribly. Lorie and I reviewed some magazines to determine the right shade of RED for me - I wanted a change, being in a new area and all! I also showed Lorie an example of how I wanted my hair cut, and she had no problems with it. My coloring came first - it had to be done in a process as it was brown with blonde highlights. Lorie checked with me constantly to make sure I was fine and comfortable, and I appreciated that. We chatted a bit, which is a first for me. All of my previous stylists were uncomfortable making conversation other than the basic "Hello, how are you?". In between our chats, I spent my time scrutinizing the salon, as there is so much color and eye candy on each wall, in every corner and niche of the salon - funky paintings and pictures, statuettes, blown glass sculptures, etc., that you can't help but look. Finally, it was time for my cut and style. Lorie was quick and precise, and after doing the cut, she dried my hair, even made sure I was comfortable. She didn't mind changing brushes when I indicated that the brush she was using was abrasive to my scalp, which was sore from the coloring process - nothing unusual for me. After Lorie blow-dried my hair, I looked at my hair with doubt. Lorie reassured me that it'd be fine, and flat-ironed my hair, as it is naturally curly and does not cope well with blow-drying it straight - it gets frizzy. As Lorie flat-ironed my hair, I saw it take shape before my very own eyes - it turned out exactly how I wanted it. Lorie didn't even have to make touch-ups, which is what usually happens once my hair has been blow-dried and flat-ironed. I made a point of asking Lorie when her off days were (Monday and Tuesday) and got her card. I paid the bill, which was comparable to the cost of getting my hair done back home in the south, and gave Lorie a 15% tip, then walked out of the salon with a twinkle in my eye and a bounce in my step! I'd recommend this place to anyone who likes a trendy and funky cut, just a trim, or even a style. During my appointment, which took approximately 3 hours, I saw persons of all ages walk into this salon. Men over 50, teeny-boppers, Moms and Daughters, toddlers, feeble old women with cotton candy hair, etc. This place only has limited service, and the cost is reasonable. It's worth making the trip! Check out the salon on their website: http://www.salonmedusahair.com If you are close-minded and do not like eccentric persons, do NOT bother visiting this place. You don't belong here.
