Review content:
This year marks the 25th annual celebration of the Great American Weekend in Goshen, NY. Goshen is home to the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame and each year hosts a grand town celebration which this year runs July 1-4th.
The celebration, hosted by the Goshen Chamber of Commerce and The Village of Goshen is well attended and includes more than 150 craft vendors, antiques, food, a rock wall, bed race (a real hoot), children's amusement rides and live local entertainment. A local favorite, Jimmy Sturr (polka, polka, polka) and his orchestra will be performing live on July 2nd at the historic track followed by a spectacular 3-d laser light show. Sure to be a crowd pleaser. Lots of food, soft drinks and fun throughout the weekend.
The ever popular float parade sponsored by the Goshen Department attracts a crowd of entries in categories like Most Beautiful, Most Humorous, Best Application to Theme, Hard Luck Award, Best Individual in Parade and many more. These floats are worked on for months leading up to the parade and include brownie troops, the ladies auxiliary, volunteers from the local nursing home; all show talent, lots of creativity, sense of humor and competitive spirit.
The Chamber of Commerce is smart to invite the community to a breakfast in June to help jump start and kick off the festivites for events surrounding the Weekend. This year's breakfast is going to be held on June 21st and participants will be treated to a buffet breakfast, brief presentation by a member of the Weekend Committee who'll preview what's in store for this year's celebration and view a picture show of past Weekends. Each guest (for $15) will get a small gift, enter drawings for fun door prizes and get in on the spirit of the weekend which draws thousands each year.
This is annual event worth attending.
