They really do. This is what I love about the Bay Area: these little, hardcore neighborhood joints that put all their energy into being the neighborhoodiest little joint you ever saw. They don't just offer personal service and good quality affordable stuff, they offer space and time to community organizations, they donate their money or their services to people, they find out what people want and give them it all, they personalize everything. The Parkway has couches, beer, pizza, wine, pastries and pasta and salads that they make themselves, they have film festivals and anti-war teach-ins and all kinds of stuff like that. I think the thing that gets me is their little monthly newsletters, these home movies of the four or so people running it all, where they sit in front of the camera and explain what great events and movies are coming up next and what changes will be on the menu, and then they show it before every movie along with the previews so you not only know what's going on but who the owners are. It's so funky and lovable, I could just scream!
