Souvenir City (a gift, clothing, etc store) in Gulf Shores , Alabama has just celebrated it's 50th anniversary.I believe it is the oldest "gift shop" in the area. It suffered damage a few years back from Hurricane Ivan, but has been restored and looks so much better now than it did pre-Ivan. The front of the store has the same giant shark's mouth entrance. It's a cool photo-op; have your kids stand in the entrance, and it looks like they're inside the shark's mouth, while you snap a picture. The back of the store is now a giant pirate's ship. It looks great! Inside, they sell every kind of "beach souvenir gift" you can imagine (shells, shell art, beach art, etc.), and they also sell clothing and swimsuits, toys, hermit crabs, etc. they literally sell some of everything. You can't even exclude food, (although I do, I'm being silly now) because they sell candy (like salt water taffy). Of all the gift shops in the area, it is indeed the biggest (it's a huge store) and the one with the most variety inside. And, every year...I still take photos of some poor family member clasping their jaws in mock fear while standing inside the gaping mouth of the biggest shark in the Gulf. (Look next door for the biggest (and purplest) Octopus in the gulf! LoL You'll know it when you see it!)
