I have been a member of Coasthills for a long time (since I was a kid). It used to be Vandenberg Federal Credit Union (VFCU). At the time that it was VFCU, it was a lot better, with very few fees. Once they changed their name, they added a lot of fees for things that I was not used to having to pay for. I do still think that it is better than a lot of the national banks as far as fees go. It also used to be a lot more exclusive for who could become a member, but now anybody in northern Santa Barbara County or San Luis Obispo County can become a member. They do have a lot of branches, which makes it convenient for getting your banking done and for having access to the ATMs. They also have a great online banking system that allows you to check balances, retrieve printable copies of checks that have been cashed, transfer funds between accounts, make loan payments, etc. By far, the thing that I like the most, is the web bill pay. I never have to write a check for bills, and I rarely have stamps on hand, because all of my bills are paid online through Coasthills and they get the payments to the providers for me. There is no fee for this service. Overall, it is a pretty good credit union.
