Businiess name:  Johnny's Luncheonette
Review by:  Sharon S. S.
Review content:
At this retro style luncheonette, the decor is fifties but the food sensibility is modern, and that's not always a good thing. There is a no-fat, low-fat approach to a lot of standards that may make the health-conscious happy, but what is the good of retro without the flavor? A favorite with families, Johnny's is friendly, and the menu has a little bit of everything for everyone. There are old-fashioned burgers (and turkey burgers) served with the sweet potato fries that are probably the most popular menu item. There are a few Jewish deli favorites, diner standards, a full breakfast, and plenty of fountain drinks. The school photos from Newton schools of decades past are a hoot. The food is eh, but there is usually a crowd waiting to get in, so go figure.
