A professor lecturing in an introduction to Law class used to say "Why do we use all of these Latin terms? MORE MONEY. If we use these fancy Latin terms, clients will pay us more money." Some people think that greed has ruined the Legal system, that cases are often won by whomever spends the most money, and that those who don't have enough do not get justice. Nolo http://nolo.com/ has helped non-attorneys with do-it-yourself guides since 1971, in part because many people seem to have some of the aforementioned sentiments. Granted, sometimes it is best to hire an attorney -- many don't have time to glean necessary knowledge from books about the law when a legal problem arises. That said, many of their books are written by attorneys and allow the public to buy a $30 book instead of spending $200 or more per hour for an attorney to fill out some of the same forms that the books describe how to use. Also, their website is filled with tons of useful information. This is a company that has rocked the boat, and fought for their right to serve the public good -- not bad, for a corporation!
