Basix Cafe struck me as the "BLD restaurant" in WeHo. Overall, a good selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads & entrees; a real crowd-pleaser for those groups of friends with varied food palates & budgets. This place is relatively inexpensive for dinner ($15-$17 incl. tax/tip) for an entree per person & dessert to share. The only complaint is that there are potato chips instead of french fries with the burgers. This would have been a travesty if it were not for the amazing burgers that took up enough space in our stomachs. Food review: Kobe Beef Burger - This comes out with the lettuce, tomato & onion on the side. Ordered medium, the outside was tenderly seared while the inside was juicy and without risking bloody. You can request sauce, but try it as is & appreciate the Kobe beef as it is. Otherwise, just save $3 and get the regular hamburger if you're going to alter it. Salmon Burger - Favorite of the evening. The fish patty was perfectly flaked, compounded, and had a consistently crispy texture. Because the patty did not fall apart, I pestered the waiter to tell me how the chef was able to fry the patty without breading it. Included with the burger is a delightfully tangy and creamy side of freshly-made tartar sauce. Vegetable Pizza - Must share with friends! The pizza came out in a wooden board, sliced up & begging to be pried apart with a knife to separate the melted cheese. It had a sweet taste to it, and must have been from the combination of diced garden vegetables & specialty mozzerella. The pizza sauce was mixed with the toppings, rather than under the cheese like other pizza joints. No worries, this kept the pizza crust crispy throughout the meal & wasn't at all soggy. Overall, great value & atmosphere & place for group meals. Pros: Piping hot rosemary bread, Friendly/Prompt Service Cons: Street noise (but good people watching)
