Businiess name:  Capers Restaurant

Capers still holds up. I do want to clarify that the Monte Cristo sandwich is basically a french toast number - and not dipped. But it is still good an perhaps too filling. Reminder Chef Hugo Gamboa is their to please and always greets his regulars. The quality of his food is top AAA - huge sausages and a full plate of what ever dish you order. The Castro Valley Village shopping center is not the best place to get a price break on meals - we all know the rent is huge in that center, yet Hugo remains the heart of that part of Castro Valley. He has a huge following and I know he will make it threw these recession months. I recommend any of the breakfast dishes - and try Capers dinner plates - they are great. "Located in Castro Valleys "Castro Village" two blocks from the CV BART Station. This is a "gem" local diner for CV natives. Kept well hidden in the center of old Castro Valley. They have breakfast lunch dinner menu that is a good price for the hearty plates they serve up. Hugo is the chef and sometimes can be seen in the dining room visiting with the locals and asking about their meals and day. The menu is basic comfort foods and Hugo is famous for his burgers that I have tried and can say they are the best, the ground round is of high quality. Also a lunch favorite is Capers steak sandwich. The breakfasts are very hearty, four egg omelets topped with cheese and his original home fries. The vegetarian garden omelet is amazing with fresh seasonal veggies. The Capers French toast is also a favorite dish, thick dipped with a cinnamon touch. The hard to find Monte Cristo sandwich is a gem from the lunch menu, dipped and fried just right and served fruit and ask for the maple syrup its the best condiment to ad . This is a menu item I have a hard time finding in other diners. The dinner menu sticks with the freshest of ingredients that Capers is famous for. I had the mushroom steak and it was huge and covered in an amazing sauce, served with home made mash or baked potato. The Roast
