My dog had attended puppy class at Triple Crown, which I had gotten the recommendation from a Shiloh Shepherd Forum individual. We just completed the class in May of this year. I should also mention that on May 13th, 2009 when my son and I were arriving for a class, he heard a kennel tech (at the time we thought was a trainer) yelling, “HELP, HELP, HELP”. My son ran over to assist her; he thought the dogs were attacking her because she was on the ground. There were three dogs in the pen (a Papillion, Border Collie, and Doberman), the Border Collie was attacking the other two dogs and the tech couldn’t control them. At the time, the facility manager told us they were her personal dogs, which we now assume was a lie. We still felt the facility was an OK place, I think because of our experience with the trainer during puppy class
So, we decided to take our Shiloh Shepherd to Triple Crown for boarding. We explained she is shy and that Jay (the trainer) was familiar with her. We DID NOT want her in the pen with other dogs due to what we had previously seen. We DID NOT want a bath or grooming. We purchased the “Luxury Suite” accommodations. We spoke with the Mary, the kennel manager, when we dropped Mackenzie off reiterating the same requests of no pen time, no bath, etc., as we had at the front desk.
We got back too late Wednesday night to pick up Mackenzie from Triple Crown. I was getting ready on Thursday morning when at about 9:00am I get a call from John Woods telling me I cannot pick up my dog because she had bitten someone Wednesday night. I was in shock and I asked what happened. He told me my dog had not defecated since she had been there (Monday am) so a kennel tech took her to the grooming office (not a grassy area). When she was there the tech turned his back on her, another tech opened the door for a customer, my dog bolted. Oh, and by the way, she was not on a leash due to their improper equipment. I have no idea how they stopped my dog (she’s 9 months old and weighs 83.9 lbs.) and she’s very fast. I can only surmise they either grabbed her tail, yanked the fur on her neck, or tackled her. She turned and bit the tech. This is the story I have been told and this is why my dog is now under quarantine.
I called John Woods back to ask some questions and because he wouldn’t release my dog to me. The first question I asked was, what time did this happen. He first started to say Wednesday afternoon and then changed it to Tuesday night. So from his first call to this one, his story changed three times, it would be nice to know when he actually reported it. It also makes me wonder what really happened. Why was my dog in the grooming area considering she will only defecate on grass? We specifically said NOT to bath her or groom her before we picked her up. Why was my dog in the grooming room? Why were they concerned with her defecating on Tuesday when we dropped her off on Monday? Why did the story change? Why did the day the incident occurred change? So many questions - I'll never have the answers. However when we recently took our dog to the veterinarian, she hid under the benches in the lobby. My veterinarian's staff said she had not behaved that way before. Don't board your pet at Triple Crown Dog Academy!
