I have an $1,200 Movado S.E. model 605790. Unfortunately the top casing of the time piece popped out and I decided rather than trying to pop it back in, I would have a jeweler look at it. I keep all the original cases for my Movado's. When I brought it in, they took it out of the case and thew it in an envelope...that should have been my first warning. They told me that they were going to have to use an adhesive to put it back in place.
When I came in to pick up the watch, I noticed a large white speck in the middle of the glass casing of the timepiece. When I tried to rub it off, I noticed it wasn't moving. Come to realize, it was on the inside of the glass casing. Obviously the just glued it back together without making sure it was clean of any dust or fingerprints left inside. So, I told them, they need to remove the glass, clean the inside, and put it back together. They told me that would be an extra $20.00. So, why would I pay twenty bucks for a mistake THEY made. I then asked to speak with the watchmaker...their reply "we don't give out his number". So, I told them I would like my money back, I was told "we do not give refunds on service". When I mentioned that the watch is now in worse shape than when I brought it in, they said "then take us to court...but we're done here".
I have received two estimates to have the issue fixed, becuase I have NOT had any work done it would not be fair for me to post a price. However, I can tell you that it is no where near a $20 dollar repair. I have a feeling if I had left it there, I would have really had a charge much higher than the estimate. So, think of this when you bring your jewelry in.
