I just got back from NYU :-D. (Got into the College of Arts and Sciences). Went to the University Day information reception yesterday.
Hahaha, the University Day reception yesterday was not very useful to me. Mostly it was informal conversations with the faculty etc and some panels to ask questions. (But there was good free food ;-D) hahaha. Aside from that I went to go visit some of the dorms there and get a feel of the student life there. The dorms I think were roomy enough and adequate.
NYC / NYU sure is interesting. I stayed in Washington Square Park (smack in the middle of NYU) just walking around for like 3 hours. Watched a few shows that they had in the middle of the park and there was a filming for a new Virgin Mobile Commercial in progress while I was there. The theme was "befriend a mime" or something like that. I wonder if I will be on TV. I don't think I will be though, the people that they filmed were given consent forms to sign and $1 for compensation. I didn't get one :-( so looks unlikely. But even still! That was an exciting experience! There are probably many opportunities for internships in films etc for this kind of thing in NYU.
Looks like there will be lots of opportunity for excitement and entertainment if I decide to enroll at NYU. The only problem is that with such a large student body I don't think I will be able to build as personal relationships with professors as in smaller schools. There is also the problem of competition for internships etc? The large student population might be trouble because it might be harder to come out at the top of my class... so I have a chance at medical school in the future. The cost of tuition is also an issue for me... NYU is rather pricey. I also didn't have a chance to visit any classrooms unfortunately.
But overall, the student demographics of NYC are really diverse. I saw a lot of other Asian students so I felt quite at ease. As far as crime and campus safety I felt really secure with my visit there also.
In the coming days I will have to decide whether or not I would like to attend NYU next year. But so far, the impression that I got was pretty impressive! :-D
Any input from others regarding this school would really help me a lot about deciding whether or not to attend NYU next year. Thanks!
