Businiess name:  Music Together of Bay Ridge
Review by:  Rachael S.
Review content:
Music Together is a well thought out, educationally minded music class for newborns to kindergarteners that won't drive their accompanying parents batty. I attended weekly while caring for a 2-year-old child and it was actually fun. The session has an assortment of quick paced activities including specific songs with hand motions, free-form and guided "dancing", free time with instruments, parachute play and - a favorite - dancing with scarves :). All of the caregivers were very involved, which helped us not to feel silly while participating. At the beginning of the session each family gets a CD and tape of the songs chosen for the session (different each "semester") as well as a booklet on the benefits of letting children experience music. And that might be the difference between this and other musical programs - Music together is as much about rhythm and playing with voices and hand movements as it is about catchy songs. The songs are happy little kid's songs, but they're not nearly as cloying or annoying as a lot of other children's music - I never minded popping the CDs in when we were at home or in the car, and didn't get sick of them. The class's effect on infants was also amazing - one particular 8-month-old in our class (the younger children's classes are open to any ages) who had been coming with a sibling since she was born was just as into it as the older kids. All of the teachers that we encountered - they're very flexible with make-up classes - were great, and none of them condescended to the kids.
