Review content:
We stopped in for dinner after seeing a favorable review and getting a recommendation from a local. Apparently, the chef/cook had taken the night off that evening. My wife and I both ordered enchilada platters. But whoever prepared the food either did not know an enchilada from a hot dog or felt like playing a cruel joke on us. Their version of enchiladas consisted of raw (straight out of the bag) corn tortillas with cold, unmelted, shredded cheddar cheese inside. They topped it with more cold cheddar cheese and some below average red salsa (likely from a jar). Mind you, these things were not even cooked as the cheese wasn't even melted. The chicken enchilada was filled with some dark colored mystery meet possibly stripped from a chicken or turkey drumstick. No onions, no chiles, no flavor. I thought we were in New Mexico - I expected something halfway authentic. Rounding out the experience was a generous helping of canned pinto beans and canned mexican rice - also cold. We went here hoping for a good meal after a long (800 mile) journey that day. Instead, we received a culinary insult. I surely hope that Raton has more to offer than Pipers!
