Review content:
Fortunately, our plane was delayed on that confusing (no liquid on the plane)Thursday, Aug.,10,2006. We arrived in New Orleans late & the restaurant we had planned to go to was closed. Our friend, who was already there, researched on her blackberry for restaurants opened late in New Orleans (which is diffult to find these days) & found a great review for a new restaurant named Alberta. We called ahead to warn them & arrived at 9:45 pm (they close at 10pm). Alberta welcomed us as if we were the 1st guest of the evening, had a table ready for us & we proceeded to have one of the best dining experiences we have had in New Orleans! They made us feel so at home... We had the mussels in saffron sauce for an appetizer. When all the mussels were gone the waitress graciously was clearing the table of the large bowl, but we still had bread left to soak up the wonderful sauce so we grabbed it back! She had to take the clean bowl back later to show Chef Melody - which, of course brought her out to the table. We all (3) shared our entrees with each other. 2 scallops (one cooked less than the other by request)w/ risotto & shrimp w/ pasta. The pasta was REALLY good, but the risotto was out of this world. They both had such unique ingredients you would not think of combining, but complimented everything. Dana, the sommelier, suggested great wines with our entrees & they were very appropriate & reasonable. We could have ordered another entree but we had to move on to the desserts! Well, to make a long story not as long as I could, let me say we had 4 desserts & one of my friends wondered where the angel food cake was so we could clean our dessert plates as we did the mussel bowl. It was close to 11:45 pm when we left & never felt rushed. We are regular vistors to New Orleans & with as many choices of great restaurants, Alberta will be on the top of our MUST list in all future visits. Not far from the French Quarter.
Pros: from the 1st step in to the last step out
