Review content:
Our elected officials care nothing about the Broome County Social Services Building being directly across from our only Public High School.
This school in the past years has had to add local police to police the grounds of the school inside and out because of disagreements among students that turn violent and high barred fences were added a few years ago to keep the students on school grounds.
With the Broome County Social Services Department located directly across the street students have access to DSS Clients who will sell them drugs which happens quite frequently but is not recognized and ignored by the politicians, school administrators and the local police.
Wandering bans of gangs from the high school are consistently doing damage to persons or property on their way home from school in the residential areas and the local law enforcements hands are tied when it comes to prosecution of these kids.
2 Years ago a young girls hair was set on fire and the School Prinicpal and administrators did nothing except ban the student who set the fire from a school dance which he was not barred from when he showed up at the school the evening of the dance.
There is a class system at Binghamton High School concerning prejudice.
If your poor-Black- White you are treated as an outcast by school officials as well as students.
Black Children as well as poor white children are not given the same educational advantages as those of the upper classes who come from wealthier families.
There have been murders around the school and across the street at the DSS building making the area unsafe for any children.
Parents don't want their children exposed to the DSS clients or the building that has housed DSS and this has sparked community controversy.
The school board cares more about their own pocketbooks than your children's education. Drugs and Violence run rampant through high school halls yet nothing is done.
Another Student was given a hard time by teachers school social workers and the principal for less than adequate schoolwork while the parents of the girl wanted her tested for learning disabilities.
In the end it was found out by the parents of the girl that the girl was 98% deaf in both ears, should have had hearing aids but the school never tested the girl.
The parents transferred their children to a private school- the problems were taken care of with the girl and she is in Nursing school with grades of 4.0
This school district is a lazy bunch of smoozers who constantly give themselves raises and perks that parents are paying for through taxes. Before you let your kids go to this school check their American express cards and see how much the principal and other employees have personally spent on lobster partys and dinners and other extravagances.
Be very careful sending your kids here.
Ask yourself why their is a police presence at the Public High school but not at the private high school a few blocks away.
