Review content:
Pacific Topsoils bought out the old Grey Barn nursery located on 202 at Sahalee way and moved their whole bulk materials business to that location as well. What you get now is high end nursery that also provides a great selection of bulk soils, mulches and rock products.
I have been using Pacific Topsoils’ “Pacific Garden Mulch” as an all purpose soil amendment for years and I love this product. A liberal dose of this mixed into a planting whole can turn even the most sandy or clay filled soils into near ideal garden soil. And by buying this in bulk I have saved a huge amount of money over buying the bagged “Cedar Grove” compost at home depot.
The nursery itself has an excellent selection plants, including many rare and hard to find varieties. Particularly impressive is their huge selection of shade perennials. Also if designer garden gloves and too cute garden furniture is your bag, they have a large selection.
The staff can be hit or miss. I have had met some very knowledgeable and helpful workers here in the past, but on occasion I have been stuck with the blank expression of some high school kid in response to my questions.
The nursey at Pacific Topsoils suffers from the same Achilles heel that the old Grey Barn did. Price. Frankly, their prices on plants suck. This should be expected given their close proximity to uber high end Sammamish communities like Sahalee, but for fiscally challenged gardeners like myself this can be a deal breaker.
