Review content:
Yesterday, I had the most wonderful experience. A friend came in with this huge plate of spicy chicken, rice & peas, greens and plantain. I was amazed at the amount of food but more importantly was the aroma. It took me to another place where I felt the warm sun and comfort. Immediately, I had to go where this good food was being cooked and served. Right there on Central Avenue is Mama's Caribbean Grill. After not living in Charlotte for a very long time, a person misses the rhythm of the streets that they are from, the smells from familiar neighborhoods and the distinct dialects that make you want to dance. The kitchen is clean and the food is prepared with the loving hands of Mama. I had to have the curry chicken, yams, rices & peas and plantain. And of course to excite my palate even more I had to have ginger beer. The cost of the food is quite reasonable and if you order a large meal, you have more than enough for the following day's lunch. But go back and get more plantain and ginger beer. They have island specialties - Ackee and Saltfish. YUMMY! Just the sight of the food makes your mouth water and warms your spirit. Take the time to go for lunch. Get to meet the staff there. They are friendly and will answer your questions with a smile. If you just face the counter you are transported to that wonderful island of Jamaica or the streets of Brooklyn. Try it! It is the best!!!!! Pros: Service is a big plus. Cons: Have to park around the corner on Thomas Avenue.
