I love visiting the Johnson City Public Library. Located in the old George F. Johnson Homestead just visiting the building itself is like taking a step back in time. A mini historical society in itself numerous pictures are displayed in the former front room of this old mansion depicting what life was like back before the turn of the century in the town. As you enter the main rooms of the home friendly smiling librarians are there to greet you and help you with all your needs. Many of the shelves built in the other rooms of the home accomodate many of the classics of literature besides any other topics of reading materials you would find in any full sized library. Best Sellers are reserved for the front of the main room where patrons enter so they can get a good idea of what is available for patrons. Technology enters into this vast cave of reading material with online access to the internet from the computers the library has for patron use. And not a day goes by where where you can't stop in and not find a copy of the daily local paper besides newspapers from other cities as well. Because of lack of space available music or the latest movies are limited but they do have good selections for both. The childrens room in the back rooms of the mansion look like a setting from Alice In Wonderland with miniature tables to accomodate little readers. The JC Library is a laid back, relaxing kind of place to go where patrons can spend time with Martha Stewart, Gore Vidal, Abraham Lincoln, Queen Elizabeth or JK Rowling and Harry Potter. Its easy to apply for a library card and help is always available to patrons from staff if your looking for a book and can't find it. This library is one of Johnson City's hidden assets.
