Knitting has become so cool in the past few years that it's hard to find anyone who doesn't want to learn. But so many people "learn" by going to a Michaels and buying a skein of huge, fluffy, sparkly yarn and a book of scarf patterns. Move beyong the scarf. You're in Tucson for goodness sake! In Purls, they have real yarns, and real patterns for real clothing. Buy a lightweight cotton and make a tank top. Make a handbag and felt it. Make a gauzy screen for your windows. They have the stuff. And they can teach you how to use it. They have classes, they have workshops, and they have wonderful women who know what they're talking about and will tell you exactly what you need to know. If you want to really learn how to knit, leave the synthetic stuff behind and head up to Purls.
