This hospital as all of the newest and best equipment available on the Central Coast. I really feel secure knowing that I live so near a hospital that has such a good reputation. The best thing about this hospital, in my opinion, is that they are the only hospital in the area with a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for babies born either prematurely or with the need of specialized care. When I gave birth to my son, I had no idea that he would need any special care because he was not premature. However, when he had trouble breathing at birth, all they had to do was walk him right across the hall to the NICU. I would not have had that option if I had given birth at another hospital. The staff in the NICU was very patient and understanding and really put us at as much ease as was possible in such a scary situation. The only complaint that I have about Sierra Vista is their billing. They charge WAY more than any other hospital in the area (sometimes as much as 400% more). They also have terrible billing practices. Right away after you receive a service, they send you a letter saying that they estimate that you owe X amount and to send your check "today" - without even giving you a real bill. They also lost one of my checks and threatened to send me to collections until they found that they had entered it into someone else's account - a check for $1200 !!!! If you really need excellent medical care, it is probably worth it to get the best care at Sierra Vista and just worry about the billing later.
