Review content:
South City Grill in Mountain Lakes is a conundrum for me. It is the only place remotely city-ish around, but it is filled with men on the make, mobster-wannabes, and 40 year-old divorcees. Not a young crowd at all (not that we want college age, we are 28-30), but there's nobody like "us" here.
It is a place, however, you can dress up, order oysters and a martini, and really feel like you are "out."
The food is incredible. The best oysters. The best filet anywhere, even counting all of the great steak joints in NYC, get it with bleu cheese. Awesome martinis. The mahi mahi with coconut rice is to die for.
Reservations essential. Even with one you're likely to wait at least 1/2 hour. They definitely overbook.
Service is exceptional.
The one true place we can count on for a wonderful dinner out without going into the city.
