Long story...but here goes... I moved about six months ago. After arriving, I needed to rent a smallish truck to retrieve some forgotten items. I made the tremendous mistake of going to the Uhaul by the Target and the Burger King in Saint Cloud. When I called for an estimate on price, etc. I was given very abrupt answers and told DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, return the truck late. (Like a threat)...I asked honest questions, such as, what if there is an accident? What if there is a flat tire? What if you run out of time, because the guys helping you move have to go home, and you have to finish the job yourself? What would the overcharges be? Well...I never got a straight answer, and went ahead to go pick up a truck. When I arrived, I asked the same questions of the manager, whose name is Brian Ott. Brian was even nastier than the girl on the phone, and said "We TOLD you when you called NOT to return the truck late". I reminded him that "things happen" and what would the charges be for returning a truck late? I kid you not when he said "A million dollars". I said WHAT??? He repeated that they could charge whatever they like because he has already told me that I was not allowed to return a truck late. I said this was ridiculous, and could he be professional and give me a straight answer. He said "You're not from around here, are you"? (I have a NY accent). I said no, I'm not. He replied..."a New Yorker, it figures". I was ASTOUNDED!!! I told him he was being very rude, and he said: "You are the one from New York, not me, it's your problem, and now I'm not renting you a truck. Get out". I was mortified and astonished at how they treat their customers for asking a simple and honest question...but no, they were not having it; just don't dare return the truck late. I ended up without a truck at the last minute, and had to search around for a "guy with a truck", in a town where I knew no one. Thanks Uhaul...I will never use your services, and I hope that folks who read this learn to go to Hertz, or even Rent-A-Wreck, because anything would be better than getting mistreated by Brian Ott and Uhaul. In closing, when I tried to call a 1-800 number and speak with a supervisor, I was treated the same way! Apparently, the whole company is run by young snippets, as the woman on the phone said that Brian had the right to charge me whatever he wanted to for late charges! How about treating me th way he did? I will be contacting my attorney general about this situation...
