Review content:
I joined Curves about 10 months before I got married. I was out of shape and needed some help. The women were fabulous. They were helpful and positive. They kept me on track. However, about 6 months into it, I got really sick and had to have surgery. I had a doctors note that I submitted to them. Their policy is that they wont charge you if you have a drs note to back up your absence. I was supposed to be out for almost 3 months. They continued to charge me even though I put in plenty of phone calls and letters asking them not to, due to a medical reason. After I recovered from my surgery, I got married, went away, and when I came back from my honeymoon, I started going to Curves again. I was charged for the 3 months I was out due to illness, and wasnt too happy about it, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I should have stayed away. There were a bunch of new women working there, and they all had ways of making me feel bad. I gained at my first weigh in. (3 months of being sick, having surgery, and laying in bed recovering, then a wedding, then a honeymoon.) They made me feel horrible about gaining 5 lbs. Then, the women started telling me I was doing the machines wrong. (I had been going to this gym for a long time! I knew how to use the machines!) They also told a few of my friends the same thing, so I knew it wasnt me that was in the wrong. Finally, when I found out I was pregnant and had to go on bedrest, I knew I had to quit the gym. I submitted my letter in the mail saying I had to quit, just like the rules state. I had been a member for over a year by this point, and my obligations to them had been fulfilled. No cancellation. I called them the next month when my bank statement showed that they were still charging me. No cancellation. I wrote another letter and dropped it off, I spoke to the manager, I called the main curves phone number. NO CANCELLATION. Finally, I wrote a letter saying I was closing my bank account so they couldnt take more of my money, and I would take legal action if need be. Guess what? They cancelled my membership. All this time, I had lost 16 inches in total, and 4 lbs. Not anything major. It was a bunch of money wasted, down the drain. Since then, I have joined another gym, similar in style, and have lost more in the first 4 months than I did in the year and a half I was a member at Curves.
