Review content:
Hospital visits by their very nature are not fun. However, we were not pleased with my husband's care for the 3.5 weeks he was at Kindred. He was on NPO most of it, but he still needed his pain meds every 4 hours via his IV. about 80% of the time the meds were administered 20 to 45 minutes late, which means the pain was getting ahead of the meds. He had abdominal drainage tubes which he had to empty himself, most of the time, when they were full. His stomach suction tube often plugged up and he would report this, but not have the tube cleared for hours, making him nauseous with back-up. When he rang for assistance, it was often ignored, to the extent that he was humiliated by soiling himself. In 3.5 weeks, he was never bathed, and his gown was not changed except when he soiled himself. He was taken by ambulance for some tests and was promised that he would receive his pain meds before leaving for the anticipated 5 hour round trip. He got his meds, but did not leave for 3 hours, therefore, was in extreme pain during the time he was gone. His only relief from thirst were ice chips and they doled them out like they were gold. He was finally so desperate for some relief, and his buzzer not getting attention, he disconnected his heart monitor, which worked. I realize everyone is overworked and understaffed, but his care was abominable and gave him the impression that 25% of the staff was doing 75% of the work. BTW, the hamper with soiled linen and trash were often left in the bathroom, which he had to move, that the shower was filled with misc. supplies, so he couldn't have used it if he wanted. Not a complainer by nature, but highly displeased with this Kindred facility.
