We hired Adam to install a new tub and replace our shower & floor in the master bathroom. * Within a few months of completion, water leaked from the shower through the floor below it. * He did the "repair" work himself. Within several weeks of finishing, there was a substantial crack in a shower wall and water had seeped into the insulation and studs behind the tile. * Adam did plumbing work himself despite not having a plumber's license (resulting in a citation from WA Labor & Industries). We were also unhappy with more typical contractor issues. In our opinion, there were unexpected additions to the final invoice. In our opinion, there were avoidable delays/the repair took an unreasonable amount of time. In our opinion, there were serious issues with the repair tile work (jutting floor tiles, tiles that touched, one line of grout that was almost 1/2", etc.) In our opinion, there was a lack of good communication (we didn't like that he chose and installed grout color without consulting us, didn't pull a permit or tell us that we were required to have a permit on file for this project, etc.) This was our first major home renovation, and we definitely made mistakes. We hired Adam on the recommendation of friends whose kitchen he did. We regret not checking references more thoroughly, as well as specifically asking about his experience with bathrooms. We checked that his license was active on WA L&I but we wish we had seen he had closed his business in 2012 and reopened under a new name. Had we looked at ..., we would have asked why we could only find one permitted project from his business in any surrounding city (from 2010). We wish we had not trusted him to correct his own mistake and instead hired a new contractor to install a waterproof shower (using a licensed plumber) as soon as water dripped onto our dining room table below. Adam seems like a nice guy, but we wish we had never hired him in the 1st place.
