Both of my children (6 and 3) attended Brookhaven. My 6 year old attended before he started kindergarten and the summer before kindergarten and he liked it just fine. The first problem we had, was when a staff member at Brookhaven allowed a woman I have never met (she is a friend of my ex husband but I have never seen her, talked to her, or met her) to pick up both of my children!!! WITH OUT MY KNOWLEDGE! My ex husband and I have a pick up schedule that Brookhaven was aware of and it was not even a day that my ex husband was supposed to pick up. I didn’t call the school and neither did my ex to make any arrangements for anyone to pick up. My ex husband texted me when I was on my way home and asked my why his friend’s had the boys. I was so confused so I called Brookhaven and asked where my kids were and I was told that my “ex husband’s sister” had picked them up. They didn’t check ID or their pick up list. They didn’t even call me or my ex husband to confirm. They just released my children to a complete strange! I was a horrible situation. I should have pulled them out of Brookhaven right then! But after much thought and reassurance from the director and the staff that nothing like that would never happen again and they promised my boys would be safe, I gave them another chance. (My boys had been through a lot over the previous year and I wanted them to have stability not another change!) My oldest son started kindergarten and went to kids club, however, my 3 year old still attended Brookhaven. Everything was fine for a few months but then I started noticing some changes in my son. He HATED going to Brookhaven and cried every morning at drop off. My son has a bit of a speech delay so he isn’t as verbal as you average 3 year old. Not to mention the fact that he just turned 3 in Dec. Towards the end of our time at Brookhaven, I was getting a phone call or a report everyday saying my son had done something (bit another child, hit, kicked, etc.) I also started to notice my son had bite marks, scratches, and unusual marks on him. I asked the staff about the marks and I was always told that they didn’t know what happened. I decided it was best for our family to find a new school. We are now attending a our new school and my 3 years has not gotten in to any trouble AT ALL. I am told by his new teach everyday what a joy he is to have in class and how he is such a sweet, helpful boy. My son runs into his new school and he is so happy to be there! He is like a complete different kid! I really wish I would have seen how miserable he was at Brookhaven and gotten him out sooner! I should have paid attention to the red flags!
