Just read an article in StarTribune 112/4/17 Business section about tactics used to get people to buy a new furnace. 30 days ago I had a pump problem on my older boiler.....Bonfe sold me on an $8 per month plan that gave me a free inspection. they came over on a Saturday and "red tagged" my boiled for CO emissions. They quoted a new basic 84% efficiency boiler at $9000. Due to cold temps I agreed and provided a 50% deposit. After a few hours of second guessing my decision I called around and had another reputable St. Paul company come out and repair my original pump issue for $200. Was told while my boiler was old, it should not have been red-tagged. I then cancelled my order with Bonfe and my deposit was refunded. I then got 2 other estimates for replacement and found Bonfe's quote to be 50% higher. I suggest that everyone get at least 3 quotes from LOCAL companies whom have been in your neighborhood for a long time and maybe have multiple generations of family in the business.
