Professor’s of Plumbing Review Buyer Beware We needed to have our AC/Furnace replaced and called Professor’s of Plumbing. They quoted us a 2.5 ton, 2-stage, 16 SEER, American Standard unit for $9,500. That price sounded about right for that unit so we hired them to install it. The morning of the install I received a phone call from Professor’s that the unit was unavailable in 2.5 ton. They told me I had to get a single-stage unit instead. The price only dropped from $9,500 to $9,300. I was on my way into work and I had to make a decision on the spot so I said yes. Later, I learned that no company manufactures two-stage or variable speed Air Conditioners in half-tonnage. Not only does no company make two-stage or variable speed AC equipment in half-tonnage, neither American Standard, nor Ruud (the brand Professor’s primarily vends) offer a two-stage system in 16 SEER. American Standard has an 18 SEER system and Ruud has a 17 SEER system. So they had no idea what they were offering me. I’m not sure if I was ripped off or if they are simply incompetent. I would not recommend Professor’s of Plumbing for any HVAC project for the following reasons: 1. They do not know what products are available, and offer air conditioners that do not exist from any company. 2. They then offer you a lower-end unit on the day of the install and put you on the spot to purchase it at roughly the same price they were charging for the better unit. 3. They offer a lower-quality install with fewer enhancements and safety features than their competitors. 4. They charge more than their competitors. Make sure to get multiple quotes from several companies before purchasing any services from Professor’s of Plumbing. If you don’t believe me simply get a quote from Day and Night Air Conditioning and/or Magic Touch Mechanical and compare the selection, quality, and price offered by those two companies in comparison with Professor’s of Plumbing.
