Review content:
Corey and his apprentice showed up at the very end of the time window I was given by their office. They arrived with a well-stocked newer model truck.
They spent about 1/2 hour scoping and quoting, one hour working, and 1/2 hour invoicing, cleaning up and briefly looking at another potential project.
Corey is experienced and did good work. They were generally clean, though there were no booties worn or shoes-off when inside the house. On my own initiative, I ran a fan to dry out the large puddle in the basement work area. I also saved them a callback when they were in their truck ready to leave and I found a valve they had operated was dripping into an interior wall.
The regrets: I failed to understand that a $59 service fee applied regardless of whether the quote was accepted. I also misunderstood the total quote which was presented on a small tablet computer screen outdoors, however that is my fault for not making sure that I was clear on everything in advance.
I would not have authorized the work at $518 (before tax) for cutting in a tee with three ball valves. The invoice I received is opaque and does not itemize the labor and material charges. Not incidentally, it would have cost me $59 to refuse the service.
So, to summarize, they did good work with the exception of not checking the valve before leaving. It was in a hidden location and could have lead to real problems dripping away over time.
Based on my previous experiences with plumbers assisting me with several projects I think their charges were on the very-high side. While I appreciate the need to make a living, I don't favor the $59 service call fee. I feel that it is used to pressure prospective customers to authorize the work. By this I mean that if you don't authorize the work, you are out $59 and still need to find someone to do the work.
