Auction is good place to sell items but EVERY auction is taking a chance that no one will want item. Or not recognize its value and it goes for just a few dollars, that is the risk the seller takes. The auctioneer does not control how much money the item makes but using a good action house with full audience is better than selling it at a rummage sale. The audiences at Betthausers are professional buyers who resale the items and are pretty sharp. They need to buy it cheaper so they make a profit on eBay or whatever. This is how an auction works. Sellers are paying for a full house and lively bidding. That happens here, but again, the item may be worth less than buyer thinks, or the person who would bid it up because the want it, is not there. Usually at auction, things sell for half their value, but can go higher if a collector really wants it. Some items make almost nothing at auction because no one collects them anymore, Beannie babies, Avon, Barbies, collectors plates and Elvis stuff. Buyer paid a lot, but there is no value on secondary market. Every auction house has a specialty that sellers really like. At Betthausers guns, ammo, Army stuff, farm equipment, high end jewelry, old photographs/albums, glass collectibles, cast iron, and furniture.
