For my 1000 mile trip from Michigan to Maine, I used my old ('96), high-mile (138,000), economical (36mpg) Ford Probe. Halfway across NY it started running poorly, pressurizing and pushing oil out the oil filler (head gasket?). A call to my daughter gave me the number of Orange Motor Co in Albany (noting that this web site had an unflattering review of them) , and I limped into their service dept. I explained the problem, gave them a brief history of the car repairs, got a hotel and a rental car. On the road the next day I got a call saying the MAF and Oxygen sensors were contaminated and the Light-off and Underbody catalysts might both be plugged - $3000 estimate, greater than the value of the car. I explained that I had replaced the exhaust twice and U/B cat once (non-Ford parts) but not the L/O cat and asked the mechanic if he could do a system disconnect to try to locate the problem.
