Whenever a furnace breaks, the need to fix is urgent. Horizon Mechanical relies on your eagerness to fix the issue immediately, with cost being no object. I know this because when my furnace went down, I called the folks who originally installed the equipment. To my surprise, Horizon answered. They had purchased the phone number of the original company after that company went out of business. They came over in short order, which was nice. Their technician was very friendly and quick to diagnose the problem, which was also nice. Then came the price, which was not so nice. $1300 to fix a motor. Is that a lot? I don't know; I have to rely on the experts. But some of the ancillary costs had me wondering. In addition to the up-sell ""maintenance plan,"" they were going to charge me another $80 to pick up the part... on top of the $100 that I was already paying them just to come to the house. None of that sat well with me. So I looked for alternatives. Two companies responded. One was $700; the other was $500. Both were fully licensed, bonded, and experienced (15 yrs average), with good BBB records. Heck, I could have hired them BOTH to replace the motor, one after the other, and still saved money from what Horizon was going to charge. Bottom line: Horizon is terribly expensive. They'll rely on your need for an immediate fix, and fleece you. Call someone else, even if you have to shiver overnight awaiting the repair.
