When our ferret got sick, we made the mistake of deciding to try out Dr. Esteban at Street Road Animal Hospital due to a family referral and also the lure of a brand new facility with high tech equipment.
Bringing our young ferret in for what we thought was a small infection turned out to be an extremely shocking and upsetting experience when within five minutes of seeing our ferret (no tests or anything, just his personal diagnosis from holding her), Dr. Esteban told us she was filled with tumors and there was no option but to put her to sleep immediately. He barely answered our questions then rushed us out of our appointment (while I was in tears thinking I had to put my ferret to sleep) and then charged us a full office visit fee for 5 minutes of his time!
We decided to get a second opinion and took her to see Dr. Denish at Rhawnhurst Animal Hospital (who specializes in small animals) and he was AMAZING. He gave us options Dr. Esteban didn't even put out on the table. He showed concern for our ferret right from the start and made it a point to take the time to explain everything to us. Dr. Denish decided to put our ferret on antibiotics and miraculously, she made a full recovery! Dr. Denish saved our ferret's life and she is still around, doing well today! If we would have went with Dr. Esteban's suggestion, our ferret's life would have been cut short by being put to sleep for a small infection that was 100% treatable with anti-biotics!
Sadly, about a year later we got another reason to dislike Street Road Animal Hospital when we got the news that one of our family member's cats who was only two years old, passed away in the surgery room with Dr. Esteban. We were so upset to hear that she didn't get to say goodbye to her beloved pet and also that she still had to pay the entire surgery fee which was a few thousand dollars.
We will never go back to him, ever. Since sharing our story, all of our family members and friends have stopped going to Dr. Esteban and have switched over to Dr. Denish at Rhawnhurst Animal Hospital.
