Review content:
While we have no complaint about Dr. Mecs the billing policy at this office is completely absurd. They put money before their patients well being. My wife was diagnosed an issue that has been causing her constant pain and needs surgery to fix, nothing major but it needs to be done. After talking about it my wife scheduled an appointment and gave the okay to have it done. The doctor scheduled it for less than a week later, which was fine for us as it would help get her out of pain. Later that day after the appointment we were called by their billing department saying that we had a deductable to cover for our insurance of $500.00 and they would need it immediately to be able to perform the surgery. Now we are a family of 4 that earns less than $50,000 a year, so I told the lady from billing that we couldn't come up with that amount of money right now but would be more than willing to make payments. The woman from billing told me that wasn't an option, and they would put it back to the nurse and it would be decided on Monday if the surgery was going to happen or not. Monday came around and finally at 2:30pm we called them as we hadn't heard anything yet. We were put on with the billing department who we again explained our situation that we couldn't pay $500.00 up front but would be more than willing to may payments. We were placed on hold while the woman we spoke with talked to her boss (she never clearly stated whom her boss was an office manager I would assume). When she came back on the phone she said that was not an option and that we would need to pay it up front or no surgery. Yes they want paid up front from a low income family or my wife can suffer. Way to take care of your patients South Hills OBGYN.
