Review content:
I have an AM failure in my radio, which is covered under a VOLVO Extended Warranty. Peter's recommended I have a diagnostic done to determine the cause, but was also told I would be responsible for the $60 charge if Volvo didn't cover it, because the technician (Tom) needed to be paid for his time. My question was: Since I was told this may or may not be required by Volvo, and ... I felt since I had paid for this warranty and the radio AM did not work, it wasn't my responsibility to diagnose the problem. I felt it was Volvos. So, I told Peter's not to do the diagnostic until they talked with Volvo. Then I was told after my other routine service was completed that they probably wouldn't have charged me anyway for the diagnostic. If that was the case, why wasn't I told this to begin with? As it unfolded, only a Volvo DEALER is allowed to work on a Volvo Extended Warranty. I'm also concerned that Tom is the only mechanic they have now. He does all the cars. He is great and has been working on my cars for years, but a shop as busy as this would seem to require at least one other mechanic. This would appear to put a lot of pressure on Tom. But, it's not my place to tell Peter's how to run their business. Lastly, there sometimes is a discrepancy in what service Peter's recommends and what the Volvo Factory recommends. I have no problem in having the work done that is required or recommended, but I like to go by the factory recommendations unless a case can be made otherwise. I do appreciate Peter's being attentive to my service needs since I live in Eugene and have the work done at Peter's around business trips to Portland.
