Sister park to my favorite Wild Animal, now San Diego Safari Park, there's a reason why it's called the best zoo in the world. I never understood my girlfriends snobbery about zoo's until I went to this one, the one she grew up with. The parking is free and the zoo is part of a larger complex of museums housed at Balboa Park. But you can spend an entire day at the zoo and not finish. The place is huge with lots of things to see and do. The food at the park is great. I like the tree house cafe best. Splurg to take the bus if you want to avoid serious hill walking.
