I went there because my undercarriage was knocking and the tires were feeling weird they would click and such. Thinking they specialize in tires OK A MASTER MECHANIC takes my car for a test drive. When he returns he diagnosed my car to having a bad transmission and therefore the knocking is from the transmission. They give me estimate well over the value of my car over 2000 for a new transmission. I kept asking did he look at the wheels? the tie rod? they said they lifted and checked the tires. OK I TRUSTED them. Continued to drive it and guess what!! Less than a few days later my tire nearly falls off only one lug nut was holding it to my car. I had 3 broken tire stems and all my lug nutz except the one remained. I took it to a Mitsubishi mechanic and he replaced all 5 tire/wheel stems and replaced all my lug nuts he then drove it and did a diagnostic and everything was fine. My wheel barring hums but that because they are getting old. But no more knocking or clicking. My car is back to the way it was. A SIMPLE FIX!!! Transmission is fine!! He did say my Tie rod needs replacing but he said Your lucky that nothing else broke and its very bad that they could have fixed this if they just took off the wheel/tire!! So, I go back to American Tire and they asked the Master Mechanic if he took the wheels off he replied NO... mind you they told me they lifted the car and they charged me for the diagnostic test which was not even right! They gave me my refund and apologized but I stated ""How can you miss something like that when.. You guys are a TIRE SHOP and you specialize in tires and wheels!!!"" Hopefully no one ever goes through this but I returned to let them know they had my situation all wrong and they need to pay attention!! Sadly I will never return there I used to get my oil changes there and I used to buy my tires from them. I am unsure if they were more focused on getting me to buy a new transmission then working on such a small problem!! BEWARE people this is my experience!
