We live in Lafayette and the food here is good enough and inexpensive enough to make it one of our local haunts. They will substitute tofu for almost any dish, and the featured items on the menu are good ones to stick with. Fajitas are good, and can be had with beef, chicken, or fish. Other favorites of ours is the tofu fajita salad and the pork green burrito. They have won some local awards for their green chile, so go that route if you're a fan. I've never strayed far from the specialties of the house (haven't needed to) but I hear the menudo is pretty authentic, not that I'm going to try it. There are a few drawbacks, like sometimes the water tastes like it has too much chlorine in it (this seems to come and go, not sure why?) And I've had better chips and salsa elsewhere (also worse!) ... everything isn't totally perfect, but two people can eat dinner here for $20 ... the prices are very reasonable compared to the quality of the food. Sometimes sitting in the bar area is very noisy. I HATE the back-corner-room off the bar (it is like dining in a closet lit with bare bulbs, and has zero character) so don't let them seat you there (this usually only happens on busy weekend nights anyway). But the main dining room and bar area are usually nice -- clean, bright, etc. Like I said, it's a place my wife and I default to when we can't decide where to go, or else when we want to go to a nice place without breaking the bank. The servers are usually nice and the food comes quickly. It is casual enough atmosphere to bring little kids and be noisy, but as a rule it isn't a loud and obnoxious. Give it a shot, you might like it.
