Review content:
What a horrible unprofessional experience. I had a pool built after the completion of my newly constructed home. During the pool construction approximately 1100 sqft of sod was ruined during the building process. When the pool was complete we reached out to several companies for quotes and Martinez Tree and sod service came up in a Google search. \r \r I called the company and let them know that I needed approximately 1100 sqft of sod “installed”. I asked Mr. Martinez if he needed to come out to see it or measure it out himself and he said it was unnecessary if I had already did all the measuring. He mentioned that it would be 3 palettes of sod. His quote came in cheaper than some others so we chose to use his company to do the work. \r \r On the day of installation one worker showed up and began to lay the sod directly over the existing sod/dirt. They didn’t prep the ground or remove any dirt to make the new sod level with the existing sod. When the worker came to collect payment I asked him why the sod was just laid over the existing grass/dirt and not made level to other grass. He mentioned that he was only doing what he was told to do by Mr. Martinez and that was to basically throw the sod down without preparing the grounds at all. I was very confused since because I specifically asked for a quote with “installation”. The worker then said that he did install it. I immediately called Mr. Martinez and he said the exact same thing, that what they did was “installation”. After several phone conversations trying to get the matter resolved, Mr. Martinez mentioned that he would “fix it”. We couldn’t have been happier since the job already cost us $500.00. \r \r About a week later a crew of 3 showed up at our home with a roller and began rolling the sod. We immediately went out and asked what they were doing. The worker that initially came out responded by saying that they were rolling the edges. It was very apparent that our definitions of “fixing it” were way off. We were under the impression that they would prep the ground and make the new and old level. It basically looked like they put a sod blanket over the existing grass. It was an eye sore and they neighbors were all asking questions. We told them that this wasn’t going to work and this is not what we discussed. They chose not to fix it the right way and just told us to call Mr. Martinez if we had any issues. \r \r Our next phone call with Mr. Martinez wasn’t very pleasant. I told him I wanted the job done properly and that the ground needed to be prepped before the sod was laid down. I mentioned again that I was quoted for sod “installed”, not just dropped off. He then mentioned that he was done dealing my fiancé and I, and that he would no longer deal with us. I mentioned that I just want my sod installed correctly and he then mentioned that it would be more labor. He said it would require 2 hours to fix the issue and he could make it out the next week. At this point I felt powerless and I just wanted it to be fixed. \r \r One week later they sent out a crew of 3 or 4 to fix the job. Mr. Martinez required that I pay upfront before they would start working. After submitting the payment with him over the phone they began doing the process that I asked for in the beginning. Upon coming home to the completed job we were surprised to see the grass looking almost as it had before they got there. The grass appeared to only be fixed on one side of the house and it looked exactly the same on the two other sides. This additional two hours of work cost $170.00. So all together I had $670 out of pocket and a bunch of sod that just seemed to be thrown down on the ground. \r
