I have just endured eight months of fighting with this place to terminate my membership. I was on a monthly plan, meaning I was allowed to terminate my membership whenever I pleased. I left to work overseas in June and called to end my membership, thinking a simple phone call would do it. They said I had to write a letter or go to the gym in person to cancel. For the sake of time, I wrote a letter ending my membership and mailed it. I noticed two months later that I was still getting billed, so called from Asia to find out what was going on. I was told that since my letter was not mailed via CERTIFIED mail that “it didn’t count.” When asked why, they said they needed proof hey had received the letter, as having the letter in their hands wasn't proof enough. I explained I was overseas and that I wanted to cancel over the phone and asked who to speak with to do so. They said I could not and would not stop charging me. It didn't matter who I spoke with, I got the same run-around. Upon returning to the States, I went to the gym and delivered to the manager a second letter expressing my frustration over the matter and formally terminating my membership. I was then charged AGAIN, two additional times. When asked why I was charged two additional payments, they said there was a 30 day period after officially ending my membership when I was still a member and they could charge me as they saw fit. I objected and told my credit card company to refuse payments to this place. My letters and calls to the company made no difference. The two payments I refused because they were after I ended my membership totaled $45, which may seem paltry, but after having been abused and shown repeated disrespect, I simply didn’t want them getting any more of my money. As a reward, they then sent a collection agency after me, only they claimed I now owed them almost $300. All calls to the company to resolve this were met with contempt and disrespect. This place is a nightmare and I cannot more strongly warn you against joining Best Fitness.\r
